Kanna Burch

Choreographer, Dancer, Dance Instructor and Zumba® Instructor.
Soul Funktion Founder and Director.

Born in Japan 1977, Kanna started taking ballet lessons at the age of five years old. Influenced by her mom, a jazz singer; Kanna added tap to her studies at ten. As a teen, she has performed for the largest tap dance showcase in Japan, “National Tap Day”.

Kanna earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Performing Arts from Tamagawa University in Tokyo in 2000. After graduating, she continued to train in Locking, Waacking, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Ballet, House, UK Jazz Dance a.k.a. Be-Bop and more in Japan, the U.K. and the U.S.

Since 2001 she’s performed in street dance musicals, music videos, film and concerts in Japan. Kanna has chosen as a choreographer for German pop singer “Mr. President” from SONY Record during his Japan tour and music video. She was also the founder of the youth dance showcase “Family” in Japan ( the youth version of  Choreographer’s Carnival ) where she discovered a passion for the youth dance industry. This movement gave a huge impact to the Japanese youth dance industry and took it to the next level.

Since moving to San Diego in 2005, Kanna has performed in various productions and taught dance classes globally. She has held positions as: Co-artistic Director of Contagious Flow Dance Company and Co-Choreographer of  Locking and Waacking routine for the Afta Shock SD. She has recently added certified Zumba® Instructor to her list of talents and teaches classes throughout San Diego. Kanna is also a proud member of the Rock Steady Hip Hop Dance Ministries and she’s appeared in the music video “Dum Dum” by Tedashii ft. Lecrae (Grammy nominated Christian hip hop artist) and The movie “To Save A Life”  red carpet event.
